Tomboys banned in Malaysia
Maybe some of you already knew this as it isn't a recent news, but I only discovered this a few days ago:
In Malaysia, the 24th October 2008, the National Fatwa Council decided to ban tomboys, asserting that for a woman, behaving like a man is against Islam. The edict published forbid women to have short hair, and to behave and dress like men. The Council also automaticaly associated a tomboyish behaviour with lesbianism, which is wrong as all tomboys are not lesbians and vice-versa.
Here are two articles dealing with this topic:
SkyNews
AsiaNews
And a video of a protest in Kuala-Lumpur against the anti-tomboy fatwa:
Let's hope the fatwa will never be incorporated in the national law. It's bad enough to be banned from your religion for being yourself !

Re: Tomboys banned in Malaysia
Pffff closed minded people make me sick u______u
They don't try to understand these people!
I recently watch a TV show "Nouveau look pour une nouvelle vie". The wife was totally TB-ish in her youg years, she was sergeant in the army, it was her choice! But after her military service, she get married and have 2 childrens ^_^
Her husband was fall in love for her eyes because, he said, "She was totally a boy when I meet her ; short hairs, rangers boots, pants... for the first time but her eyes was wonderful!"
It's an example ~~ She was soooo Tomboy but she never been lesbian ^.^

God, makes me sick to my stomach too. I can't even imagine why people couldn't look like the way they are. I mean, really ? Control clothes and HAIR'S LENGTH ?! ô_O
Stereotypes are EVIL. It's not because one girl has boyish clothes that she is a TB. It's not because a girl has short hair thaat she is a lesbian. (Look at Emma Watson XD).
And even, wtf is the matter if they ARE lesbians or TB ?!
I think the TB in the video is damn right. Men can't control other men, so they choose to control everything about women instead.
Sad.

Just like you I'm really pissed off when I read this.
And why is Malaysia the only country to take such measure if being a tomboy was really against Islam ? I don't have a good knowledge of Islam but this seems to me that the Council fully or partly invented this pretext to justify the persecution of tomboys... And I don't even get what their problem with tomboys is. It's not like if we were a theat for men...
And why do these men feel the need to control women ? It is like being back to the old days when women had nearly no right and where fully dependent of men.
I'm glad I was born in a country where we are free and equal in the eyes of the law regardless of our gender.

Re: Tomboys banned in Malaysia
Well, isn't it in Malaysia that several "sissy boys" had to go to a psychiatric center to "heterosexualise" themselves ? This country's a few centuries late.
It looks like those extremists always need someone to persecute... And they use God as a pretext for being intolerant and violent, which makes people associate "islam" with "intolerant, retarded misogynists". That's disgusting.
I hope some tomboys will find a more welcoming place, but they'll most likely have to leave their country to do so.

You're right Nate, it's in Malaysia that 66 effeminate teenagers were sent to a boot camp to "discourage them from being gay".
It's more than time for this country to change and start to be a bit more open-minded... It's not Middle Ages any more for God's sake ! I wish Malaysian's homosexuals, tomboys and sissy boys lots of courage to face the intolerance and homophobia present in their country.
State officials say that, if left unchecked, the students - aged between 13 and 17 - could end up gay or transsexual.
